At the heart of self management training is the principle of hope. It recognises that if people are willing to take responsibility in terms of managing their longer term mental health problems, then there is a lot that they can do to diminish the impact of those problems on their lives.
The training takes a whole person approach, acknowledging the multiplicity of factors that can impact on peoples mental health and well being.
The training enables people to recognise the impact that triggers or external life events can play on their mental health, along with helping people to appreciate the extent to which warning signs can precede an episode of mental ill health and what action to take in these scenarios.
The training importantly covers what helps facilitate good mental health, in terms of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The training can be delivered very flexibly, to large and small groups, including brief informal taster sessions, which can give a general overview of the main topics discussed.
The training is facilitated by people who have lived experience and are actively managing their own longer term mental health conditions.
